Congratulations to everyone who fought this past weekend in Martinsville Virginia. We had 5 students compete in this event and everyone fought great. I couldn't be more proud. We trained very hard for this event and they all performed exactly how they trainined.
Bret Cesak started the evening off at 155 pounds. Bret smothered his opponent with heavy punches at the bell which continued on the ground and he eventually finished the fight with an arm triangle submission.
Koyya Russell was up next at 145 pounds and fought a hard 3 rounds to a very tough opponent. Koyya and his opponent exchanged punches and positions throughout the fight which made for a very exciting match up. At the end, Koyya lost a decision. It is fights like this where you put on a great performance but at the end there is only one arm raised. Every fight (or) match is a learning experience that helps in defining and accomplishing your long term goals. This fight will help and propel Koyya to even higher levels..
Third up for CMMA was David Toranzo also at 145 pounds. After getting caught early in the 1st round, David had to reach deep down and come back from a hard hit. After recovering, David completly dominated his opponent winning by a TKO at the end of the 1st round.
Fourth up was Burt "Rudy" Logrono at 135 pounds. Burt came out at the bell with a big flurry of well placed punches and pressed his opponent against the cage. After securing a very technical takedown, Burt caught his opponents back and finished the fight by rear naked choke.
Last up for CMMA was Vlad Levenfeld at 155 pounds. Vlad came out and put on a very technical stand-up performance demonstrating great footwork and well placed puches. After placing a straight right to his opponents liver and hurting him badly, Vlad went in for the guillotine choke and eventually switching off to a variation of the RNC.
Congratulations to you all. We always have a great time when we travel to Virginia and would like to thank Bob Gracie for putting on yet another great fight card..
