Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts has become the hottest, most demanded, and fastest growing martial arts disciplines in the world. It is hard to find legitimate and reputable world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA instructors that you can learn from, but if you live in the Atlanta area then you are in luck! Paul Creighton earned and was awarded his black belt under world renowned Renzo Gracie. Renzo Gracie will go down in history as one of the world’s best Mixed Martial Arts fighters. He is also known for being one of the worlds most technical and thorough Brazilian Jiu-jitsu instructors. With Paul’s extensive competition background and training he has developed curriculums for each program at his academy.
Paul Creighton – Head Instructor
Paul Creighton began studying martial arts at the age of five. He started with wrestling, and wrestled competitively throughout high school and college. As a competitive wrestler in high school and college, Creighton compiled a 134-16-1 (win-loss-tie) record and was a Junior Olympic Gold Medalist. While obtaining his Bachelors degree in health science at SUNY Brockport, Paul began goshin jutsu karate, Japanese ju-jitsu, and judo where he went on to obtain a Black Belt in each of these disciplines.
Josh Bowie – 1st Degree Black Belt BJJ
Josh originally started training Jiu-jitsu with Paul in 1998 and was actually Paul’s first student. When Paul went back to NYC to continue his training under Renzo Gracie, Josh went on to obtain his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice at Georgia State University.
After a three year hiatus, Josh began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training once again when Paul moved back to open his academy and has since then earned the rank of 1st degree Black Belt. Josh, a Gwinnett County police officer, has competed and placed in multiple sport jujitsu and grappling competitions, but his true passion is in teaching the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the students at Creighton Mixed Martial Arts Academy. As an instructor Josh has a way of breaking down each technique so that everyone, regardless of their rank, can understand it.
Bray Deavours – 1st Degree Black Belt BJJ
As a competitive wrestler in high school Bray has always had a passion for the grappling arts. After completing his Bachelors Degree at James Madison and his Masters in Business at UGA, Bray was looking to continue his passion of competing and training in the grappling arts.
In May of 2003 Bray found Creighton MMA Academy and was one of Paul’s first students and since then has earned the rank of 1st degree Black Belt. Bray loves to compete and is a Silver Medalist in the no-gi Masters/Seniors Pan American Games, and Casca Grossa and NAGA champion. It is hard to find an individual that is both a great competitor and instructor, but Bray is blessed to have both of these attributes.
Justin Parsons – 1st Degree Black Belt BJJ
Justin has an extensive background in grappling as he wrestled for 12 years before discovering the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has trained exclusively under Paul and is currently a 1st degree Black Belt. Justin pays very close attention to detail and it shows in his technical ability on the mat.
He is a true student of brazilian jiu-jitsu who puts a lot of extra time into studying the art. As an instructor at Creighton MMA Justin enjoys passing on his technical knowledge to the students at the academy.
Mark Kennedy – Black Belt BJJ
A long time devotee of personal fitness, Mark has been training at CMMA since we opened our doors in 2003. After joining as a beginner, he quickly earned the name “Whirlwind,” due to his fast and aggressive style. After many years of dedication to Brazilian Jiujitsu, Mark’s style has evolved into a very methodical and technical game. “Whirlwind” was awarded his Black Belt in 2014, and he can be seen very often teaching Saturday morning No-Gi classes.
Isaac Eberle – Brown Belt BJJ – Black Belt CMMA
Since Isaac began training at Creighton Mixed Martial Arts Academy he has become a well rounded fighter by focusing his efforts on blending both his stand-up striking and grappling techniques together. As a competitor Isaac is very technical, calm and patient which has made him successful in both grappling and MMA events. He brings this technical and patient demeanor with him as he teaches our kid’s program, MMA striking and Fitness Kickboxing classes at Creighton MMA Academy.
Isaac was undefeated as an amateur MMA competitor and has recently began fighting professionally in MMA and also holds an undefeated record. Isaac is a Brown belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu under Paul and a Black belt in Creighton’s Mixed Martial Arts ranking system. Isaac is the first student to receive a Black Belt in Paul's inner academy MMA ranking system.
Tyler Driskell – Brown Belt BJJ
Tyler Driskell started training with us full time after he graduated from Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health and Human Services. Tyler trained and taught brazilian jiu-jitsu while at college under Matt Serra’s manager Frank Mullis at the Milledgeville academy of Mixed Martial Arts.
Tyler is currently a brown belt under Paul. Tyler has competed extensively in many tournaments and has many titles in each of these competitions. Each time Tyler steps on the mats whether it is to compete, train or help teach our kid’s program at Creighton MMA he always has high energy and is excited to learn or help other’s in becoming a better brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner.
Johnny Hunt – Brown Belt BJJ
Johnny has been training with Creighton MMA & Fitness for 10 years. During this time he has been an instructor in our kid’s BJJ/MMA program, fitness programs and now our wrestling takedown classes. Johnny holds the rank of a brown belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu. He wrestled for 6 years at Central Gwinnett high school and also coached the wrestling program for kid’s at Mountain view. Johnny is currently a wrestling coach at one of the biggest wrestling programs in Georgia, Compound Wrestling. With his experience as a wrestler and coach he is a great fit for our wrestling takedown classes.
Chris Jones – Brown Belt BJJ - Yellow Belt CMMA
Chris Jones came to Creighton MMA & Fitness with a wrestling background and was a natural in the gentle art of jiu-jitsu since day one. Chris loves to compete, and has been very successful in many international competitions. In IBJJF competitions Chris has compelled a strong resume with a gold medal at the Pan American Championships, a 2-time silver medalist at the IBJJF World Championships and 10 gold medals at the Atlanta Open. Chris is currently a Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a yellow belt in our MMA ranking system. In addition to this, Chris has also lost a total of 55 pounds since his first day at Creighton MMA & Fitness. You can find Chris teaching and assisting in our takedown and BJJ classes each week.
Chris is also a Marine where he joined straight out of high school and is an Iraq combat action veteran. We thank you, and all the military, for your service Chris.
Randy Toussaint – Purple Belt BJJ – Green Belt CMMA
Randy began training with us 5 years ago and has been one of the most consistent students throughout these 5 years. If he is not at his day job, you can most definitely find him training in one of our martial arts or fitness classes. During these 5 years he has earned the rank of purple belt in our BJJ program and green in our inner academy MMA system. Randy grew up in Georgia and went to high school at Central Gwinnett. Randy is a very technical student that loves to help others. With these qualities we have found him to be perfect in assisting our kid’s BJJ/MMA programs.
Orlando Correa – Purple Belt BJJ – Blue Belt CMMA
Orlando has been an active member in both our BJJ and MMA programs for 6 years. During this time he has become very proficient in both disciplines and likes to actively compete in BJJ competitions. He is very patient, humble and passionate when instructing the basic MMA striking skills needed to our new introductory students. Orlando grew up in Georgia and went to Collins Hill high school.
Nathan Drake – Purple Belt BJJ
Nathan Drake walked through our doors when we first opened our current location and has now transformed into a very technical BJJ student. He caught on quickly to brazilian jiu-jitsu and continues to grow as a student each day he is here. You can see Nathan on Saturday mornings where he loves to assist in our kids BJJ program and instill knowledge into the next generation coming up the ranks. Nathan graduated from Georgia Northwestern with an Associates in Radiation Therapy and Georgia Gwinnett College with a Bachelors degree in Biochemistry. At Creighton MMA & Fitness he holds the rank of a purple belt in BJJ and has now began our MMA system and will soon be climbing these ranks as well.
Anthony Lewis – Purple Belt BJJ – Yellow Belt CMMA
Anthony Lewis has been training with us since the old days when we we're in our 1st location. Anthony is originally from the beautiful state of Florida and graduated from the University of Florida in 2005 with a Bachelors in Criminology. Anthony holds the rank of purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and a yellow belt in our MMA ranking system. Anthony likes to test his skills and compete in BJJ and MMA competitions when he can. With his martial arts experience and now his son and daughter training in our kid’s classes, Anthony was a great match to help as an assistant instructor.
Dan Shapiro – Purple Belt BJJ
Dan Shapiro walked into our old location many years ago and still continues to train and expand his extensive martial arts background. At 68 years of age Dan is an inspiration to us all when he steps on the mat. He holds a 5th degree black belt in Isshin Ryu Karate, a 1st degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and currently a purple under Paul Creighton in Brazilian Jiujitsu. “Diamond” Dan Shapiro has started back assisting in the kid’s program. A great fit as he had already assisted in this program back at our old location for 3 years.
Dan also is a graduate from Kent State University in Ohio and holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Communications.
Michael Croghan – Purple Belt BJJ – Blue Belt CMMA
When Michael came to work at Creighton MMA & Fitness academy he was a perfect fit right from day 1. He displays a work ethic and attitude that any organization would desire. Michael assists in our kid’s program and also assists our program director’s in every day duties at the academy. Michael always works hard whether he is on the mat or off and currently holds a purple belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu and a blue belt in our MMA ranking system. He is also currently working towards his Bachelors degree in Exercise Science from Georgia Gwinnett College.
Oscar Correa – Blue Belt BJJ – Green Belt CMMA
Oscar Correa has been training in both of our MMA and BJJ programs since he first began with us. Having originally started with us over 4 years ago, Oscar now holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and green belt in Creighton’s Mixed Martial Arts system. Oscar has fought in MMA and plans on continuing to step in the MMA arena in the future as he shows a natural talent for the sport. Oscar is an assistant instructor in our kid's classes, and connects well with the children . Oscar is enthusiastic and will rarely be seen without a smile and is a great fit for our kid’s program.
Logan Santos – Blue Belt BJJ – Yellow Belt CMMA
Logan Santos started training at Creighton MMA & Fitness at the early age of 12 years old. As Logan was climbing the belts of our teenage ranking system, he competed in, and won, just about every competition on the circuit. With countless gold medals and a battle of the ages (14 year olds) world title you can expect big things from this young man as he now enters our adult ranking system. At 16 years of age, Logan holds a blue belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu and a yellow belt in our MMA system. He is a perfect fit to help in assisting our kid’s classes as many still remember him when he use to actually participate in our kids program.
