Promotions!
Well, as you probably know by now we had a wild UFC weekend and not everything went as hoped. Enough said, results here.
On an extremely happy note, I'm pumped to announce two promotions! First up, we have NJ Phaneuf. When NJ first started training we all kinda thought he was just this wierd, quiet, and shy guy. Well, we definitely got the wierd right but he is far from quiet or shy. He's got the kind of mouth on him that makes you want to punch him (kidding, sorta), but you're scared to because his jiu-jitsu is too good. Professor Paul has rewarded his skills with a well deserved purple belt! Congrats to our good friend and training partner!
Another purple belt was given to Tom Loughmiller on Saturday. Tom has been training and teaching MMA with us for a few years now and has steadily climbed the ranks in both aspects of the sport. An incredibly gifted athlete with natural wrestling ability, Tommy is a tough roll for anyone and joy to train with because of his great personality and dreamy good looks!
Congrats to both of these men on their well earned belts!
Another huge congrats goes out to Cobrinha on his title at the Pan-Ams this weekend! Cobrinha is a friend of our Professor's and may be the most dominant competitor our sport has ever seen at this weight. Above all that, he is a heckuva nice guy and class act in all that he does. Full Pan results here.
Big Weekend For UFC
There is no plan for the UFC tomorrow night. I've heard that since it is in the middle east it will be broadcast live at 1pm and then rebroadcast several times throughout the day, but this is the only thing I can find on how to watch and it doesn't confirm that. If you don't want to know the results early, I'd stay off the internet. Full card here. Penn/Edgar, Silva/Maia, and more.
Of course, the fight I'm most excited to see is my Uncle Renzo take on Matt Hughes. Uncle Renzo is a big underdog, according to most odds makers, but they are idiots. I've read so much on this fight on the internet and there is way too much to post, but here is the UFC pre-fight interview. And another interview. And one more.
We think we've nailed down a decent location for Creighton MMA showings of future fights, but details are still being worked out.
